Digital Planetarium of Goa

It was established and inaugurated in May in the year 2012 within the Goa Science Center. The place is completely air-conditioned and has the capacity of seating around 50 viewers. The planetarium was established with the purpose of showcasing entertaining as well as educational shows associated with the celestial objects of the universe around us.

The shows that are run here on a daily basis lend an experience of traveling through the different galaxies in the Universe, a trip past the Pillars of Creation, with stars being formed or left behind while turning into supernovas. Along with this, viewers can almost feel colorful dust clouds in the galaxies and take rounds around the planetary systems such as the solar system.
The Digital Planetarium has highly advanced technological equipments making it a true attraction for audiences of all ages. With the help of these advanced projectors and a dome-shaped projection screen on the ceiling, which is a typical feature of a planetarium, it has been able to provide surreal viewing experiences to the visitors. The shows are conducted in both Hindi and English to be comprehensive for both Indian and foreign tourists.
This planetarium currently runs one show known as the ‘Wonders of Universe’ 4 times in a day in different time-slots-11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm respectively. The dome-shaped projection screen makes it possible to provide an appearance of a real sky to its audiences with projection of stars, galaxies, planets and much more in the universe. The planetarium has an 8 meter diameter on the base, on which the dome shaped ceiling is built. It is one among the latest generation of planetariums with the implementation of complete-dome projection technology.
The planetarium stays open on all days except for Diwali and Holi festivals, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm as per the timings of the Goa Science Center. It is the ideal destination for ensuring that even your kids enjoy their trip to the land of fun and frolic-Goa.

About the Digital Planetarium of Goa
This unique and new planetarium was established by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and the Goa Science center, of which the Digital Planetarium is a part, is one among the 26 Science centers in the country under the NSCM. This council which has been working towards helping India become more comfortable with science, is a wing of the Ministry of Culture under the Government of India. These organizations together along with the Department of Science, Technology and Environment under the Government of Goa, funded the establishment of the Digital Planetarium which cost more than Rs. 1 crore.
